Exciting Showcased Electric Bikes – Taipei Cycle Show Part 1

Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Taipei Cycle Show in Taiwan. It was a fantastic event where I had the chance to explore the latest e-bikes and cutting-edge technology, as well as meet the visionary leaders behind these incredible innovations.

The Taipei Cycle Show is specifically designed to bring together bike manufacturers and brands, providing them with a platform to examine product details and potentially establish fruitful business partnerships. Additionally, it serves as a platform for bike brands to showcase their upcoming creations.

Among the impressive lineup of bikes and products on display, some were mere examples of what the manufacturers are capable of producing. This display was a way for them to demonstrate their talents to the product managers of bike brands.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that certain bikes may only be available in specific markets, such as Europe. However, it appears that many of the brands I spoke with are looking to introduce their e-bikes to the US market.

In addition to the exhibition, the Taipei Cycle Show also hosted a number of prestigious award ceremonies. One of these was the d&i (design and innovation) awards, showcasing the most exceptional bikes and products at the entrance of the show. Hannes Neupert from Extra Energy had the honor of presenting the awards for the best electric bikes based on their recent testing. Meanwhile, the Light Electric Vehicle Association, represented by Ed Benjamin, presented numerous accolades to industry members and companies. Stay tuned for the exciting results!

Now, let us shift our focus to the remarkable e-bike highlights from the show!

First, I would like to introduce Neox, an esteemed electric bike brand hailing from Italy. They have truly established themselves with their innovative design, which cleverly incorporates the entire e-bike drivetrain into the mid-drive area. Allow me to present their exceptional creation, the Sporter model.

The Sporter boasts a powerful mid-drive motor, providing 250 watts of power for Europe and up to 500 watts for other markets. Additionally, it features an electronically shifted 8-speed gearbox, along with torque and cadence sensors, all seamlessly integrated within the mid-drive crank area. What sets Neox apart is their claim that the drivetrain can be shifted even under load.

Moreover, this intelligent design results in a rear-wheel chain drive that is fully enclosed within a single-sided frame. As a result, the removal of wheels is incredibly convenient thanks to the quick-release lever.

Neox has demonstrated their dedication to innovation by designing and manufacturing their own bike components. Many of these components are proudly made in Italy, while the frames are expertly crafted in Taiwan.

Considering an investment in a Neox e-bike? The approximate price for these top-notch machines is $5000 USD.

Currently, Neox is predominantly focusing on capturing the Italian, German, and Swiss markets. However, their future plans include expanding into other markets, including the United States.

Enter the Plywood E-Bike

Prepare to be astonished by the plywood e-bike, which garnered a prestigious gold design and innovation award at the Taipei Cycle Show.

This remarkable creation utilizes two plywood sides and aluminum connection parts to construct its innovative frame. Interestingly, rumors speculate that this one-of-a-kind bike may soon be available at select IKEA stores, packaged in a sleek box for easy assembly.

Note how the battery is perfectly positioned in the “downtube” between the plywood pieces, showcasing an impressive design!

The Visiobike, renowned for its advanced technological features, made quite an impact in the market last year.

Featuring a carbon fiber frame with an integrated lithium battery in the downtube, this e-bike boasts a truly unique style. It combines a traditional triangle frame with a low step top tube and excludes a seat tube, offering a distinctive appearance.

Powering the Visiobike is the MPF mid-drive motor, which seamlessly connects to a NuVinci continuously variable rear hub. This hub automatically adjusts to match your pedal cadence, ensuring a smooth and efficient ride. Additionally, the Visiobike app provides useful information about the bike, including a rear view from the seat-mounted camera.

Currently focused on specific European markets, Visiobike will soon be available in the US, with an expected price tag of $5,000 USD.
